Pope Leo XIV’s surgery to remove a “small, localized nodule” from his lung was successful, and he has returned to his room at Gemelli Hospital, according to the Holy See Press Office, on Tuesday evening, Oct. 13.

“The surgery was completed successfully, within the expected timeframe and as planned, and the Holy Father has returned to his room. Further information will follow.”

Pope Leo XIV's doctors say his chest X-ray on his third morning shows "good recovery of the lung that underwent surgery," as he resumes work.
