New York area broadcaster WPIX-TV will broadcast Easter Mass from St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday, April 9, from 10-11:30 a.m. Check local listings for channels and information.

The broadcast adds to the opportunities to the annual St. Patrick’s Easter Mass. Cardinal Timothy Dolan is expected to be the celebrant.

Along with the WPIX broadcast, the Mass is also being livestreamed here on The Good Newsroom’s main page — look for the “We Are Live” box in the upper right hand corner of the page when the Mass begins. The Mass may also be viewed on St. Patrick’s Cathedral’s livestream page, and via its YouTube account.

The faithful are reminded that those who are able to attend Mass in person are expected to do so, and that broadcasts or livestreams of Masses are only for those who are preventing from attending by an exceptional circumstance, or to allow the enjoyment of Masses celebrated in places such as the Vatican or St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

In a June 30, 2021 letter to the people of the Archdiocese, Cardinal Timothy Dolan wrote, “Of course, the Church has always held that there may be some justifiable reasons why a person can miss Mass, including old age, illness, and infirmity; this is still the case.” However, those who are able to go should attend Mass in person. “”If you’re going to the mall, having dinner out in restaurants, heading to the ballgame, visiting the hairdresser, and the like, then you should go to Mass,” the cardinal wrote.

Ordained in November 1980, Father Lipareli was the retired chaplain of the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz Department of Medical Affairs Medical Center in Philadelphia.
