In the Archdiocese of New York, a number of gatherings and pilgrimages have been held in honor of the Jubilee Year of Hope, which was proclaimed by Pope Francis. More pilgrim journeys are welcome.

The Jubilee Year of Hope runs from December 24, 2024, to January 6, 2026. The papal decree encouraged regional pilgrimages to cathedrals and other sacred places where indulgences may be obtained. The official decree is found here.

“I’m getting a lot of requests because of the Jubilee Year; we are one of the pilgrimage locations (Mt. Alvernia Retreat Center, Wappingers Falls) named by the Archdiocese of New York.” Father Mario F. Julian, OFM, retreat director, finance director, guardian, and secretary at Mt. Alvernia, told The Good Newsroom in a July 21 email. “We are open all day and people and groups come in to pray and celebrate Mass. On October 4, we are having a special Jubilee Mass here at the Mount at noon celebrated by Bishop (Gerardo) Colacicco.”

“The Archdiocese of New York has designated Graymoor, home of the Franciscan Friars and Sisters of the Atonement (Garrison), as a sacred pilgrimage site for the 2025 Jubilee of Hope,” the Graymoor website states. “When you make a pilgrimage to Graymoor during this Jubilee year, or join us for Mass, receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, pray for the intentions of the Holy Father, attend a retreat or walk the paths of our Holy Mountain, you will receive a plenary indulgence.”

In addition to Mt. Alvernia and Graymoor, six other jubilee pilgrimage sites reside within the Archdiocese of New York:

National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middletown: “All pilgrims are welcome to the Shrine. Here you can witness the importance of prayer in your life while deepening your commitment to God and devotion to Our Lady.” The shrine is planning a Carmelite Jubilee Italy Pilgrimage, October 21-30, 2025. Franciscan Friars of the Atonement at Graymoor, Garrison: “We can schedule private or group tours, create retreats and events, and curate a meaningful visit inspired by your needs.” Franciscan Friars of the Atonement

Mount Alvernia Retreat Center, Wappingers Falls: “The Franciscan Friars (Order of Friars Minor) welcome you to Mt. Alvernia Retreat Center. Whether you are a group of 20 or 100 (double occupancy) we are ready to accommodate your group for a time of spiritual nourishment and relaxation.” The retreat center is planning a Jubilee of Hope Mass on October 4 at noon presided by Bishop Colacicco. National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians, Stony Point: “In accord with the vision of St. John Bosco, Mary Help of Christians is our role model, teacher and guide…As you explore the National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians, you will see that the beautiful grounds are marked with a variety of devotional statues and reminders of ways people can communicate with God.” National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians | Stony Point

St. Frances Cabrini Shrine, Upper Manhattan: “Faith demands strength, courage, and trust in God. Mother Cabrini exemplified this, pressing forward to serve Jesus despite illness and hardship. A pilgrimage to her shrine offers the same grace—whether alone or with a group, it’s a journey toward deeper faith and spiritual fortitude.” St. Frances Cabrini Shrine | Manhattan

St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Midtown Manhattan: “The Cathedral has been a wellspring of hope and solace in times of peace and plenty and war and sorrow. In a city and nation of immigrants, it has greeted countless waves of peoples seeking freedom. St. Patrick’s Cathedral anchors us all to such basic human virtues as charity, love, decency, strength and justice. While the surrounding urban environment has seen constant change, St. Patrick’s Cathedral has stood strong, overlooking Fifth Avenue, since its dedication in 1879.” St. Patrick’s Cathedral | Manhattan

Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral, Mulberry Street, Lower Manhattan: “The historic Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral, New York’s first cathedral, has been part of the landscape for over 200 years…At the basilica, we want you to be at home in our community. We have a number of events occurring each month to meet the needs of all of our parishioners.” St. Patrick’s Basilica

Schoenstatt Shrine of Light, Staten Island: “The Schoenstatt Shrine of Light serves as a spiritual beacon to all who come to honor Our Blessed Mother and worship her Son. Nestled in a peaceful Staten Island neighborhood, the shrine is just a short distance from the iconic Statue of Liberty. Come experience this holy place and connect with the abundant graces flowing to all who visit.” Schoenstatt, Staten Island
