On March 11-12, 2023, the Archdiocese of New York will celebrate Safe Haven Sunday. This is an annual weekend set aside by dioceses, eparchies, and parishes to directly address the harms of pornography.

Within the context of the Mass, dioceses, eparchies, and parishes are able to provide teaching and resources that support and protect individuals, marriages, and families in making all homes a safe haven.

Safe Haven Sunday is inspired by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops formal statement Create in Me a Clean Heart: A Pastoral Response to Pornography, wherein the bishops state that, “The use of pornography by anyone in the home deprives the home of its role as a safe haven and has negative effects throughout a family’s life and across generations.”

Throughout the country, (arch)dioceses and parishes are able to provide teaching and resources that will support and protect individuals, marriages, and families in making all homes a safe haven. This awareness day will give us an opportunity to address the harmfulness of pornography in marriages, families, and the culture as a whole, while providing helpful resources to both individuals and families.
