As conversations around end-of-life options grow louder in New York, ArchCare offers a quiet, powerful witness to what true compassion looks like.

Dr. Taimur Mirza, MD, CMD, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at ArchCare, sees it every day. “We believe that every person, regardless of age, illness, or ability, has inherent value,” he said. “That belief is the foundation of our care, especially when someone is facing the final stages of life.”

ArchCare, the continuing care community of the Archdiocese of New York, serves people of all backgrounds through nursing homes, hospice, home care, and palliative medicine. Its mission is rooted in Catholic moral teaching, but its approach to care speaks to something universal: the dignity of every human life.

New York's Medical Aid in Dying Act takes effect August 5, prompting the archbishop to call for vigilance against a growing throwaway culture in an article for First Things.
