Miguel Garcia, the owner of the Big Deal Supermarket and community philanthropist, is proud to announce that the Anthony J. Merolla Holy Name Society of the Parish of Church of St. Clare of AssisiSt. Francis Xavier Parish and the Big Deal Supermarket will once again sponsor the annual Lenten Fundraiser that has raised vital funds for this Morris Park parish since 2010.

Starting on Ash Wednesday, February 18, and continuing through Easter Sunday, April 5, shoppers are urged to purchase their groceries and other items at the Big Deal Supermarket, located at 1018 Morris Park Avenue (corner Paulding Avenue). Shoppers can contribute to the fundraiser by simply dropping their sales receipts into the big wooden box located in the front of the store after they have checked out.

A percentage of all sales made at Big Deal during Lent will be donated to both churches of the parish. The Lenten Fundraiser is a strong neighborhood tradition that raises money for church repairs, programs, education, and other significant projects. Additionally, the fundraiser brings the community together during Lent. Nearly $6,900 was raised in 2025, and more than $103,000 has been raised since the fundraiser program began in 2010.

The Anthony J. Merolla Holy Name Society President Joseph Madia, Recording Secretary Peter Ulrich, and President Emeriti Thomas Tronconi and Martin Dolgow will be coordinating and administering the fundraiser this year. Reverend Salvatore DeStefano is the pastor of the Church of St. Clare of Assisi-St. Francis Xavier Parish and spiritual director of the Anthony J. Merolla Holy Name Society.

The 2026 Lenten Fundraiser is dedicated to the Church of St. Clare of Assisi-St. Francis Xavier Parish secretaries Charlene Brown, Ellen Capellan, and Anne Leone, who work tirelessly to ensure the parish churches function smoothly.

The Big Deal Supermarket can take phone orders and via the internet. Delivery service is always available.
