Over 58 years of service, Sr. Julia taught elementary and high school students, led religious education and adult faith formation programs in Illinois parishes, and did teaching and pastoral work in Staten Island and Connecticut, and social work in Appalachia.

Throughout his life, Father Hugh loved all of his parishioners and all aspects of the priesthood.

Ronald Joseph Hicks, father of Archbishop Ronald A. Hicks, entered eternal life at Franciscan Village in Lemont, Illinois, on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026. He was 87 years old.

Sr. Constance Gaynor, FSP, devoted seven decades to serving the vulnerable as a social worker, administrator, and author of her congregation’s history. A founding member of the Franciscan Sisters of Peace, she led children’s homes, directed the Religious Leaders Program at Notre Dame, and taught English to immigrants well into her 90s.

Sr. Mechtilde Doherty, OP, spent 71 years as a Dominican Sister of Blauvelt, devoting more than four decades to teaching second grade and CCD before serving her convent community as housekeeping supervisor until she entered eternal life at 89.
