Members of the Fordham Preparatory School soccer team took a victory lap in Albany on Monday, celebrating a season that saw the Bronx school win archdiocese, intersectional, and state titles.

After starting the season in last place, the Fordham Prep Rams went on a 15-game winning streak that led to the school’s first triple crown.

The Rams captured the New York archdiocesan championship, the New York City intersectional title (Archdiocese of New York and Diocese of Brooklyn), and a New York State title. It marks the soccer program’s second state championship, eighth city title, and 23rd archdiocesan title.

The team’s success was celebrated Monday at the New York State Capitol in Albany, where they were hosted by State Legislator Landon Dais, a 1999 alumnus who now represents the Bronx. The recognition ceremony follows a similar honor bestowed upon Cardinal Hayes High School in 2024 for their state football championship.

The delegation to Albany included key school leadership figures: Anthony Day, school president; Sal Annunziata, athletic director; John Mercarella, assistant principal; JP Fierghy (’93), director of engagement; Pete McNamara, head soccer coach; Roger Marment, assistant coach; and Marcus Davidson, assistant coach.

“The day was a great success and something I have never seen before,” McNamara told The Good Newsroom by email, highlighting the significance of the celebration.

Both the New York State Assembly and Senate recognized the team with resolutions of congratulations and welcome.
