Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen was born near Peoria, Ill., was ordained there, and then made his way first to New York City, then to Rochester. He was ultimately entombed in Peoria and will be beatified in St. Louis, Mo. Livestreaming of the event will allow people in all of those places and beyond to pray and celebrate this momentous occasion in the history of the American Church together. 

Members of The Good Newsroom team will be in St. Louis and Peoria for Celebrate Sheen events on Sept. 23-25, and will provide regular updates via our website and social media. 

St. Louis is in the Central Time Zone, and Central Daylight Time (CDT) is in effect this week, one hour behind New York’s Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). All times below are given in both. 

Wednesday, Sept. 23: Vespers 

At 5 p.m. CDT / 6 p.m. EDT, bishops, clergy, consecrated religious, and laypeople will gather at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis for vespers. Archbishop Mitchell T. Rozanski of St. Louis will be the principal celebrant, with Bishop Robert E. Barron of Winona-Rochester, Minn., giving the homily. The event will be livestreamed at celebratesheen.com/livestream. EWTN will also carry vespers live. 

Thursday, Sept. 24: Celebrate Sheen Show and the Beatification Mass 

The day’s events begin at The Dome at America’s Center with the “Celebrate Sheen Show,” a pre-beatification program of speakers and musicians. Cardinal Timothy Dolan will speak on Archbishop Sheen and the Eucharist. SiriusXM Catholic Channel host Katie Prejean McGrady will emcee.

The Diocese of Peoria will stream events taking place in Peoria on its YouTube channel, including a novena of Holy Hours from the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception that has run nightly since Sept. 15. 

SiriusXM subscribers will be able to listen to live coverage of the beatification Mass on The Catholic Channel (Ch. 129) beginning at 10 a.m. CDT/11 a.m. EDT, featuring Katie Ruvi and Fr. John Maria Devaney. 

Friday, Sept. 25: Masses of Thanksgiving 

Following the beatification, a series of Masses of Thanksgiving will be celebrated in Peoria at the Cathedral of St. Mary throughout the day on Friday, Sept. 25, at 9 a.m. with Bishop Louis Tylka of Peoria, 11 a.m. with Archbishop Ronald Hicks of New York, 1 p.m. with Bishop John S. Bonnici of Rochester, and 3 p.m. with retired Auxiliary Bishop Joseph N. Perry of Chicago, all in CDT. These will be livestreamed on the Diocese of Peoria’s YouTube page.
