Iona Prep Tops Monsignor Farrell to Win CHSAA AAA Football Title

Gaels avenge their only regular season loss, raise third trophy in five years
Iona Preparatory School of New Rochelle defeated Monsignor Farrell High School of Staten Island, 42-20, in the Catholic High School Football League AAA championship game on Saturday at Fordham University, avenging their only loss of the season and winning their third AAA title in five years.
The Gaels improved to 10-1 overall, while Farrell’s seven-game winning streak ended with their record at 9-2. This was Farrell’s first championship game appearance since winning their first league title in 2000.
Iona running back Crew Davis rushed for 202 yards and one touchdown, with a total of 253 yards. The University of North Carolina commit was also named the game’s Offensive Most Valuable Player. Davis’ teammate, quarterback Julian Guzman, threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more, with a total of 187 passing yards and 66 rushing. Iona Prep racked up 507 yards of total offense.
Farrell’s Bryce Moye passed for 180 yards and three touchdowns, while Braxton Moye had 52 receiving yards and one score. The Lions committed three turnovers.
Iona Prep’s made personnel adjustments to their offensive line following their earlier 28-21 loss to Farrell on October 17. The Gaels will now host St. Francis School of Hamburg, just south of Buffalo, in the CHSAA Championship game at Iona Prep, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 29.
