Grace and peace be yours from God our Father and from our Lord Jesus Christ.

On May 9, 2024, the 2025 Jubilee of Hope was announced by Pope Francis. It will run from December 24, 2024, to January 6, 2026.

Holy doors will be opened at St. Peter’s Basilica, the Cathedral of St. John Lateran, the Papal Basilica of St. Mary Major, and the Papal Basilica of St. Paul Outside-the-Walls. Unlike the Jubilee of Mercy of 2016, local dioceses will not have formal holy doors. However, the papal decree does encourage regional pilgrimages to cathedrals and other sacred places where indulgences may be obtained. The official decree may be found here.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan is declaring that, in the Archdiocese of New York, jubilee pilgrimage sites have been identified at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middletown; the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement at Graymoor, Garrison; Mount Alvernia Retreat Center, Wappingers Falls; the National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians, Stony Point; St. Frances Cabrini Shrine, Upper Manhattan; St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Midtown Manhattan; the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral, Mulberry Street, Manhattan; and the Schoenstatt Shrine of Light, Staten Island.

The official opening of the Jubilee Year 2025 in the archdiocese will coincide with all other dioceses worldwide. His Eminence will celebrate Mass on the Solemnity of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph on Sunday, December 29, at 10:15 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

As plans continue to be formulated by the newly created office of adult discipleship and marriage formation, you may find some resources and more information by visiting https://www.iubilaeum2025.va/en.html.

I take this opportunity to renew my sentiments of esteem and prayerful solidarity during this blessed season of Advent.

Today we cover ourselves in ashes to tell the world that we are a work in progress.
