More than 500 catechumens gathered at St. Patrick’s Cathedral for the Rite of Election, entering the final stage of preparation before becoming Catholic at the Easter Vigil. Presided over by Archbishop Ronald A. Hicks, the liturgy formally recognized those preparing to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. For many, the journey began last fall in their parish communities through the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults. The ceremony marked a significant spiritual milestone as their names were inscribed in the Book of the Elect, signifying the Church’s affirmation of their readiness for full initiation at Easter.
In a letter to pastors, principals, and school leaders, Sister Mary Grace Walsh, ASCJ, Ph.D., Superintendent of Schools, emphasized the continuing nature of the work.
