The New York State Catholic Conference is launching a new video series, “Disagree Without Disrespect,” beginning Oct. 6, featuring Archbishop Ronald Hicks of the Archdiocese of New York.

In the series, Archbishop Hicks reflects on the role Catholics can play in today’s increasingly divided public discourse and offers guidance on how to engage in difficult conversations while remaining faithful to Catholic values.

“As Catholics, we are given by the Lord himself, by the Church, beautiful and wonderful moral teachings. And those teachings that help form and guide us should be shared with others.”

The series emphasizes that civility does not mean avoiding difficult issues, but that Catholics are called to participate in public life while recognizing the dignity of every person, including those they strongly disagree with.

“We have an absolute right and a responsibility to speak out and to share what is important from our faith, from our morals,” the Archbishop said. “We should use our voices in a way that defends and protects human life, that looks at ways that we are helping the poor, the vulnerable, and the immigrant.”

“Disagree Without Disrespect” is part of the New York State Catholic Conference’s ongoing effort to encourage Catholics to be active and thoughtful participants in public life.

The video series will be released on the New York State Catholic Conference’s social media channels this week.
