
Sister Mary Rose entered eternal life on April 1, 2025. She made a difference in the lives of countless children and adults in her teaching ministry as a teacher, principal, and Director of Religious Education at St. Anastasia Parish for 37 years

Sister Mary Rose Mullervy, OP of the Dominican Sisters, Sparkill, entered life on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, in Siena Hall, Dominican Convent. She was 94 years old.
Born in New York City on July 28, 1930, Mary Rose was the daughter of James and Katherine Creegan Mullervy. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 8, 1948, and received the name Sister Patrick James. She professed her first vows in 1950 and her final vows in 1955.
Sister Mary Rose received her BA in Education from Fordham University in 1956, an MS in Education, SUNY, New Paltz, 1973; and Certification in Religious Education from St. Joseph’s Seminary, Yonkers, 1978.
Sister Mary Rose commenced her teaching ministry at St. Martin of Tours, Bronx (1950-1955), followed by St. Theresa School, Bronx (1955-1956); Sacred Heart School, Suffern (1956-1959); Holy Family School, Hicksville (1959-1966); and principal of Most Precious Blood School, Walden (1966-1978). From 1978 until 2015, Sister Mary Rose served as Director of Religious Education at St. Anastasia Parish, Harriman. Sister Mary Rose was honored by the Catechetical Office of the Archdiocese for her faithful service in sharing the faith with children and parents as Director of Religious Education for 37 years.
Sister Mary Rose is predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Katherine Mullervy, brother-in-law Edward Flood, and nephew James Flood. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Flood, five nieces and nephews, 12 great-nieces and nephews, and five great-great-nieces and nephews, her Godchildren and extended family, Dominican Sisters and Associates, and friends.
Sister Mary Rose made a difference in the lives of countless children and adults in her teaching ministry as a teacher and principal and as Director of Religious Education at St. Anastasia Parish for 37 years. She carried forth the mission of the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill to proclaim the Word of God through ministry for justice and reverence for all creation. May she be welcomed into God’s presence—well done, good and faithful servant, Sister Mary Rose Mullervy. May the road rise up to meet you, and may God hold you in the palm of his hands.
