After more than two years of restoration, the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral‘s historic 1868 Erben Organ was revealed during a special concert and fundraiser on June 11. Original artwork discovered beneath layers of gold paint was seen publicly for the first time in more than a century. The restoration highlighted the historical significance of one of the nation’s finest surviving organs built by New York’s Henry Erben, and underscored the Basilica’s role as the first cathedral of the Archdiocese. The evening featured a concert led by Organist and Music Director Jared Lamenzo and raised funds to support the Basilica’s sacred music program.
