Friday, Sept. 11, 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

On Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 5 p.m., Archbishop Ronald Hicks will celebrate a Vigil Memorial Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral to remember those who died and mourn with family members and loved ones who died as a result of the tragedy. 

The Mass is by invitation only but will be livestreamed. There will be numerous opportunities throughout the archdiocese for New Yorkers to prayerfully commemorate the anniversary at local parishes.  

The Bronx 

Fr. Brendan A. Fitzgerald, pastor of St. Barnabas Church (409 East 241st Street), will preside over a 25th Anniversary Memorial Mass at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 11. 

St. Philip Neri Church (3025 Grand Concourse) will have a 9/11 Memorial Mass at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13. St. Philip Neri suffered a terrible fire on June 15, 1967. FDNY Lt. Michael K. Healey, FDNY Lt. Mickey Conboy, and FDNY Firefighter Donald J. Regan risked their lives to save the Body of Christ. Healey and Regan both died in the WTC on 9/11, saving other members of the Body of Christ. Lt. Conboy will be at the Sept. 13 Mass as St. Philip Neri Church dedicates a plaque to honor its parish heroes.

St. Frances de Chantal (190 Hollywood Avenue) will have a morning service on Friday, Sept. 11 at 8:15 a.m. in the schoolyard with school children and parents. Following the service, children in grades 6, 7, and 8 will walk to the church for the 9 a.m. Mass for Peace. At the time of the Presentation of the Gifts, 25 small votive candles will be presented at the altar by members of the congregation to commemorate the anniversary year of the tragedy. Following the Mass, coffee will be available, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.

Dutchess and Putnam Counties

St. Martin de Porres Church, located at 118 Cedar Valley Rd. in Poughkeepsie, will host a Day of prayer and adoration on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026. 

The schedule for the day is as follows:

• 6:45 a.m.: Mass, followed immediately by the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for quiet prayer and Adoration throughout the day 

• 12:15 p.m.: Mass 

• 5 p.m.: Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy 

• 5:45 p.m.: Benediction 

• 6 p.m.: Mass of Remembrance 

St. John’s the Evangelist in Pawling (39 E Main Street) will celebrate a 9/11 Memorial Mass with Vespers at 7 p.m. on September 11, 2026. Rev. John F. X. Palatucci will be the presiding celebrant. 

St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster will have a 9/11 memorial Mass for victims and first responders at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 11. Fr. Richard Gill will be the celebrant. 

Manhattan 

On Wed., Sept. 9, 2026, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., the Church of St. Paul the Apostle will host “Beyond the Rubble,” an evening of reflection and hope with author and journalist Michael Kelly, remembering the stories and reflecting on the rubble in our own lives and how we come together in hope.

The Notre Dame Club of New York City will host a 9/11 Memorial Prayer Service on Wed., Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. at the 9/11 Memorial Site (180 Greenwich St.) to commemorate the members of the Notre Dame family who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks. Meet at the northwest corner of the North Tower Pool.

Fr. Kieran Halloran SJ, son of fallen FDNY member of Ladder 8, Lt. Vincent G. Halloran (member of Battalion 2), will preside over the Battalion 2 9/11 memorial Mass at the Basilica of Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Sept. 11. 

The Church of St. Francis Xavier (46 W. 16th St. | Accessible: 55 W. 15th St) will have a 9-11 Memorial Mass at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026. A moment of gathering will follow Mass.

Those with loved ones, friends, family, or colleagues lost in the 9/11 attacks who would like them remembered by having their names read during the liturgy, please submit those names to John Uehlein at juehlein@sfxavier.org. 

The Parish of St. Vincent Ferrer and St. Catherine of Siena will have a Requiem Mass in the Dominican Rite at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, at St. Vincent’s to commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11, for which the Schola Cantorum will sing. Fr. Peter Martyr Yungwirth, O.P. will be the presiding celebrant. 

This Mass is sponsored by the New York Purgatorial Society. All are welcome.

There will be a special Mass on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026, at 4 p.m. at St. Peter’s Church, across from the World Trade Center, presided by Fr. Bryan Williams, C.S.C.

Rockland County 

St. Margaret of Antioch Church in Pearl River (115 W Central Avenue) will come together in prayer to remember the victims, honor the heroes, and seek God’s peace for the nation. Rev. Eric P Raaser will preside over the 9/11 Memorial Mass at 7 p.m. on Sept. 11, 2026. 

South Westchester 

The Church of St. Augustine in Larchmont (18 Cherry Avenue) will have a memorial Mass for the victims at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026. Fr. George Hafemann will be the celebrant.

The Church of Saint Eugene (707 Tuckahoe Road, Tuckahoe Road and Central Avenue) will have 9 a.m. Mass on Friday, Sept 11. During the Mass, the names of Yonkers residents who perished that day 25 years ago will be read aloud during the Mass. Fr. Matthew Fernan will be the main celebrant. 

Immaculate Conception Church in Irvington (16 N Broadway) will have a Heroes Mass at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13. The intention of the Mass is for all men and women who answer the call when others are in need. A blessing of all emergency responders and frontline workers will be offered during the Mass. 

Staten Island 

At Resurrection Cemetery in Pleasant Plains, Staten Island, Fr. Eric Rapaglia of St. Joseph-St. Thomas-St. John Neumann will celebrate a memorial Mass at 9:30 a.m. in the Resurrection Chapel, 361 Sharrott Avenue. Resurrection is one of two cemeteries managed by the Trustees of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral that will mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks with memorial Masses.

Sixty-one victims of the attacks were laid to eternal rest at Resurrection Cemetery. All are remembered with prayer, entrusted to God’s mercy, and held in the communion of the faithful departed. 

St. Clare Parish (110 Nelson Avenue) will commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11 with a memorial Mass on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 5 p.m. to honor parishioners and loved ones lost that day. The liturgy will include prayers of remembrance and the blessing of newly added memorial leaves on the parish’s Tree of Life, each engraved and embossed with victims’ pictures. All are invited to join the parish community in prayerful remembrance and hope. 

The Church of Our Lady of Pity will once again host the Notre Dame Club of Staten Island’s 9/11 vigil Mass on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. Archdiocese of New York Auxiliary Bishop Peter Byrne will be the principal celebrant; Bishop John O’Hara (retired) will offer the homily.

Queens 

At Calvary Cemetery in Long Island City, Queens, Fr. Michael Idahosa of St. Mary’s Winfield Church will celebrate a memorial Mass at 10 a.m. in the Old Chapel/St. Calixtus, 34-02 Greenpoint Avenue on Saturday, Sept. 11. Calvary is one of two cemeteries managed by the Trustees of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral that will mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks with memorial Masses.

Sixteen New Yorkers who died on 9/11 are buried at Calvary Cemetery. All are remembered with prayer, entrusted to God’s mercy, and held in the communion of the faithful departed.
