On Sunday, May 4, Father Szymon Kurpios and St. John The Evangelist Church hosted the Filipino-American Association in their celebration of Flores de Mayo. Flores de Mayo, or “Flowers of May” in Spanish, is a religious celebration in the Philippines dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The event featured Mass celebrated by Father Von Erick Maria Sandoval, O.Carm., the Parochial Vicar of Saint Simon Stock – Saint Joseph Catholic Church in the Bronx, ceremonial dancing, a procession of flowers, a crowing of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and a celebration with traditional Filipino food.

Fr. Enrique Salvo explains that the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus is about love. The consecration of the United States of America to the Sacred Heart encourages us to love each other across the nation.
