On Sunday, May 4, Father Szymon Kurpios and St. John The Evangelist Church hosted the Filipino-American Association in their celebration of Flores de Mayo. Flores de Mayo, or “Flowers of May” in Spanish, is a religious celebration in the Philippines dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The event featured Mass celebrated by Father Von Erick Maria Sandoval, O.Carm., the Parochial Vicar of Saint Simon Stock – Saint Joseph Catholic Church in the Bronx, ceremonial dancing, a procession of flowers, a crowing of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and a celebration with traditional Filipino food.
“Let us all join in prayer that Our Lady of Coromoto, patroness of Venezuela, will comfort and protect her children and that compassionate international assistance will arrive swiftly," the bishop wrote.
