The Bronx school’s title-winning basketball coach takes over from athletic director and varsity baseball coach Ben Aguirre

St. Raymond High School for Boys has named head basketball coach Jorge Lopez as its new athletic director, the school announced this week via social media.
With 25 years of dedicated service in Catholic education, Lopez has spent his career inspiring and guiding young minds as a social studies teacher, the Bronx high school said in a statement.
In addition to his work in the classroom, Lopez has played a pivotal role in the ongoing development and success of the St. Raymond‘s basketball program. Before being named head varsity coach in 2012, Lopez served in multiple capacities, including varsity B head coach, freshman head coach, and varsity assistant coach. Since taking over as head coach, he has compiled a 199-134 record, and the team has made seven Archdiocesan Championship appearances, securing titles in both 2013 and 2024.
Lopez takes over from Ben Aguirre (’97), who served as both athletic director and varsity baseball head coach. Aguirre will become the school’s new associate principal of student life beginning in the 2025-26 school year. St. Raymond’s is currently seeking a new varsity baseball coach.
