Archbishop Hicks Reacts to the USCCB Consecration Mass, the Knicks Win, and His Friendly Wager
By: Archbishop Ronald Hicks
On the June 16 episode of All Good Things with Archbishop Hicks, Archbishop Hicks and Father Dave Dwyer discuss the USCCB’s Mass to consecrate the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the New York Knicks’ NBA Finals win, and the status of the archbishop’s bet with San Antonio’s Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller.
“I had such a busy day on Sunday,” Archbishop Hicks, who attended the National Puerto Rican Day Parade and a 100th anniversary Mass in Hartsdale on June 14, said. “I needed to get to bed. I knew I needed to sleep, but it didn’t matter. I watched the game until the very end, and then I watched all the interviews, and I continued to celebrate with whoever was online and just saying, ‘What an amazing game, and what an amazing series it was.’”
He added that the streets around him in Midtown Manhattan were alive with noise as fans began celebrating, and it was “great to be a part of.”
While the evening proved to be eventful for the archbishop of New York, it also meant that he had won his friendly wager against longtime friend, Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, who is the archbishop of San Antonio.
“I’m still waiting for my barbecue here,” Archbishop Hicks joked after explaining that they bet barbecue and bagels on the series. “But he was such a great sport and making those videos together, we had a lot of fun.”
Archbishops Hicks and García-Siller solidified their bet at the USCCB meeting in Orlando, which also featured a Mass to consecrate the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
“It’s very significant at this point in time because we are all looking for and yearning for love. True love, and the heart of Jesus is connected into that love…” he said. “We’re all in agreement that we’re wanting and craving that love and to celebrate it in that holy, powerful, impactful way I think it’s something that’s moved us.”
