The Church of St. Clare on Staten Island is planning a Young Adult Mass this Sunday, October 4, at 6:30 p.m., with a focus on the battle against breast cancer.
“The Young Adult Mass gives our young adults a place to pray, connect, and feel at home in their parish, and this month’s focus on prayer for those fighting breast cancer reminds us that faith calls us to stand with people who are suffering, to pray for them, and to surround them with hope and community,” the pastor, Fr. Arthur Mastrolia, told The Good Newsroom via email.
“It’s a simple but powerful message: when we gather as a parish, we lift one another up, no matter what stage of life we’re currently experiencing: the simple joys of childhood, the angst of the teenage years, the promise of young adulthood, or the fragility of old age. The Mass is a reminder that no one carries their burdens alone.”
Fr. Mastrolia added, “In these days when the Church is experiencing a resurgence of interest from the young adult community, the Church wants to do whatever it can to bring them into the flow of her life and activity.”
Participants are encouraged to wear pink as a sign of support for those fighting breast cancer. St. Clare Church is located at 110 Nelson Ave. in the Great Kills section of Staten Island. The website is https://stclaresi.com/.

Healthcare Mass: Sunday, October 18, at 11:30 a.m. Organizers invite all to celebrate the contribution of healthcare workers and recognize St. Luke, author of the Gospel, “and beloved physician.” Mass will include a special blessing of the healing hands.
St. Luke is called the “beloved physician” by the Apostle Paul in Colossians 4:14. He was a trained doctor and a close traveling companion of Paul.
