AES defeated St. Aedan’s of Pearl River, Rockland County, 32-29
The Annunciation Elementary School (AES) 6th grade CYO boys’ basketball team won the CYO State Archdiocesan Championship on Saturday, March 18.
The team, from the Crestwood section of Yonkers, defeated St. Aedan’s of Pearl River, Rockland County, 32-29.
The road to the championship was an exciting and tough one. First, they defeated St. Greg’s of Harrison in the Westchester/Putnam County semi-finals. That was followed by an overtime win against Holy Name of New Rochelle in the Westchester/Putnam County Championship, held at Iona Preparatory School.
From there, in the state tournament, AES won over St. Raymond’s of the Bronx, pulling away in the second half. The next day, they defeated Holy Child of Staten Island, a game in which they trailed by three points at the half, winning by stifling their opponent, holding them to just four second-half points.
For the state championship game against. St Aedan’s, the boys played the way they played all season: team ball with a side of grit and hustle.
