A Word from Cardinal Dolan: Rome | St. Patrick’s Cathedral in St. Peter’s Basilica
| 07/2/2026
By: Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan
In Rome for the Consistory called by Pope Leo, Cardinal Dolan takes us to the marble circle representing St. Patrick’s Cathedral within St. Peter’s Basilica, marking where the door to St. Patrick’s Cathedral would be if the Cathedral was placed inside the St. Peter’s.
It’s heartening, as this particular period of transition for our archdiocese symbolically ends with the pallium liturgy, to witness firsthand how succession and passing on are inherently part of the Church’s DNA.
