On Saturday morning, the Holy See Press Office released a statement from Pope Leo XIV’s doctors saying that he is fit to be discharged from Gemelli Hospital.

Dr. Luigi Carbone and Professor Stefano Margaritora said the Pope underwent blood tests and a chest X-ray in the morning, which confirm that his clinical condition allows for him to leave hospital.

A separate statement from the Holy See Press Office said the Pope will be discharged on Saturday afternoon and return to the Vatican.

“Following the doctors’ assessment this morning, Pope Leo XIV will be discharged today from Gemelli Hospital, where he was hospitalized for surgery on his right lung,” read the statement. “He will leave the hospital in the early afternoon and return to the Vatican. Tomorrow, he will lead the Angelus prayer from the window of the papal apartment.”

Before returning to the Vatican, the Pope will celebrate Mass in the room set aside for that purpose on the 10th floor of Gemelli Hospital, according to the Press Office.

Los médicos han dado de alta a León XIV y mañana, domingo 18 de octubre, rezará el Ángelus desde la ventana de su estudio en el Vaticano.
